Beautiful Mess : The Story of Diamond Rio

Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio
by Diamond Rio & Tom Roland

Photobucket

With the purchase of the NELSONfree version you get the audio book and the ebook.

From the publisher: *If your only exposure to Diamond Rio is the band's flawlessly layered harmonies and tender lyrics, you only know a fraction of the story.

You don't know about the coal mining grandfather, the taskmaster piano teacher from Berlin, the quarter midget car racing, the King Tutt impressions, the four-year-old band member, or the slaughterhouse chores. And while these details might even seem insignificant to the group's nearly two decades of chart-dominating singles, they are essential elements to the band's collective journey.

The individual stories of Diamond Rio's members reveal the intersection of six lives at a shared goal. Through the group's rise from theme park entertainers to country music superstars is familiar among plenty of other Nashville musicians. Diamond Rio's unusual hurdles distinguish the group from its peers.

In this portrait of one of Nashville's most adored country groups, the members of Diamond Rio give a candid and often amusing account of their rise to--and near fall--country music's A-list.*

Beautiful Mess is a great collectors item for any fan of Diamond Rio. I would recommend this book to anyone that is a lover of their music. It takes you behind the music scene. You get to know the history of the band and how they overcame obstacles.

After reading the book, it gave me more respect and admiration for Diamond Rio.

The story shows how the group followed God's plan. In the world today it's hard to make the decision to follow God's plan and not our own. We need to put away our wants and accept the blessings that God gives us.

...What a beautiful mess I'm in...

The Sweet By and By

The Sweet By and By
by Sara Evans & Rachel Hauck

From the publisher: *A redemptive story from multi-platinum recording artist Sara Evans.

Jade Fitzgerald left the pain of her past in the dust when she headed out for college a decade ago. Now she's thriving in her career and glowing in the light of Max Benson's love.

But then Jade's hippie mother, Beryl Hill, arrives in Whisper Hollow, Tennessee, for Jade's wedding along with Willow, her wild younger sister. Their arrival forces Jade to throw open the dark closets of her past--the insecurity of living with a restless, wandering mother, the silence of her absent father, and the heart-ripping pain of first-love's rejection.

Turns out Beryl has a secret of her own. She needs reconciliation with her oldest daughter before illness takes her life. In the final days leading to the wedding, Jade meets the One who shows her that the past has no hold on her future. With a little grace, they'll meet in the middle, maybe even before that sweet by and by.*

The Sweet By and By is the first book in the series, A Songbird Series. It's a great collaboration between Country Music singer, Sara Evans, and Christian author, Rachel Hauck. There were many situations in the book that I could relate to. The Sweet By and By is a book that I would definitely recommend to others. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I heard the second, Softly and Tenderly, is "better than the first".
I also recommend The Sweet By and By Audiobook. It includes an interview with Sara Evans. It's a great item for any Sara Evans fan to include in their collection.

A few of my favorite quotes from The Sweet By and By:

- "Max stretched across his chair and kissed her cheek. "Thanks for finding me." "

- "Max turned to Jade and pressed his lips to her forehead. "I think I'm addicted to you." "

- "What good are dreams if they have no chance of coming true?"

- "Tough times don't change man's heart; they only reveal them."

- "Whatever ill you have against someone isn't worth sending the Lord Jesus back to the cross."

- "Holding a grudge does nothing but deepen and widen your hurt."

- "Even the wise need wisdom."

These are just a few, I could go on and on. There are tons of wonderful quotes in the book.
